Land allotments by previous regime to be cancelled: Dharejo
HYDERABAD: Sindh Minister for Revenue and Relief, Saifullah Dharejo, has said that thousands of acres of government land allotted to influential persons by the previous government would be cancelled and action would be taken against the Revenue officers who facilitated these illegal transactions. He said this while talking to media-men at the Tapedari Training College in Hyderabad on Thursday.
He said that inquiry against illegal allotments of government land and land grabbing has been initiated at various places and action has been taken against various officials. He warned revenue officers to refrain from malpractices, failing which strict action would be taken against them.
Replying to a question, the Sindh Minister for Revenue said that 26,000 acres of government land was provided to Alternate Energy Board at district Thatta for establishment of their projects but unfortunately after passage of many years, the land has not been utilized. However, he made it clear that now government has decided to take all allotted land back from the government institutions or other organizations in case they have failed to utilize it.
He said that the Tapedari Training College Hyderabad has been re-opened and revamped after its closure more than 10 years back and training of 270 Tapedars has been allowed purely on merit basis. He said that in addition to this, present government has approved Rs60 million to upgrade the Tapedari College by introducing GIS-GPS and Computer systems for survey of land.
The Provincial Minister for Revenue stressed upon the trainee tapedars and in-service Revenue officers not to compromise on their official duties as people have suffered a lot during previous ten to twelve years. He said that agricultural land was the only source of income of majority of people of Sindh who deserved a better deal.
Referring to peoples’ complaints about the alleged corruption in the department, the minister said that devolution system introduced by previous regime has given birth and strengthened corruption on the gross roots level.
He also criticized the demarcation of revenue limits, carving out new districts and bifurcation of different Revenue units and said that this had been done by the previous government to serve its political interests. He said that PPP has decided to review all such decisions and undo the same in consultation with coalition partners.
