HYDERABAD: Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA), at a meeting held here on Sunday, has urged the Sindh government to increase the wheat procurement target from 1.2 million tons to 1.5 million tons to enable the growers to sell all their harvest to the government at the fixed rate of Rs950 per 40 kg.

It further demanded that the government should appoint growers committees for each procurement centre to ensure transparency in the procurement procedure and demanded that government should also provide gunny bags to the growers.

The senior vice president of the Chamber, Mir Murad Ali Khan Talpur, presided over the meeting.

It advised the wheat growers to sell their crop only to the government at official procurement centres to avoid exploitation by the middlemen.

It reminded the government that cotton sowing season was around the corner and demanded that the cotton growers should be provided quality cotton seed at subsidised rates without any further delay. It also demanded that phosphate fertilizer should also be made available to the farmers.
