Former Haqiqi man shot dead in Khokhrapar

KARACHI: A 25-year-old former worker of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) was shot dead on Sunday morning in the Khokhrapar area, police said.

The Khokhrapar police said that the victim, Nadim Baig, son of Shamim Baig, was a refrigerator and air-conditioner technician in the locality.

They said that the victim’s friend, Rana Naveed, came to his house at around 8am on his motorcycle and took the victim with him for the repair of an air-condition unit in a nearby house.

The police said that the two friends were intercepted by as many attackers on a motorcycle near Baitul Mukarram Masjid in the locality. The attackers opened fire on the victim. They said that the victim’s friend tried to run away, but he was also shot and wounded by the attackers, who fled after their swift operation.

The police said that the deceased was a former activist of the MQM Haqiqi. They, however, said that now the victim was not affiliated with any political or religious group.

The body and the injured were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the deceased sustained three bullets in his upper torso from very close range as the bullets pierced through the body.

They said that the wounded man sustained a bullet in his right leg, and he was discharged from the hospital after medical treatment.

The Khokhrapar police said that they registered a case against unknown culprits under Sections 302 (intentional murder), 324 (attempt to kill someone) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the wounded man.
