HYDERABAD: The district and sessions judge of Hyderabad on Tuesday ordered registration of an FIR against the SHO and two policemen of Tandojam police station for keeping 10 women and two minor girls in wrongful confinement.

According to Qazi Atif advocate, the order was passed on an application, seeking recovery of 60 villagers picked up by police in a raid on a village of Matiari district on Feb 11.

Atif had filed the application on behalf of Jan Mohammad Panwhar, who said that a joint police team of Matiari and Hyderabad districts raided Allah Bachayo village and picked up around 60 villagers, including 10 women and two minor girls.

The applicant said that police did not disclose the reasons for their arrest.

After the application was filed, the sessions court appointed the judicial magistrate-IX as raid commissioner to recover the detrained people. He raided Tando Qaisar police post of Tandojam police station on Feb 14.

During the raid, 10 women and two girls were found at the police post about whom no entry was found in the dairy of the police station.

The women and girls were released on personal bond.

Other villagers were not found as police had released them before the raid.

The women told the court that police had misbehaved with them and kept them in wrongful confinement at the said police post.

The applicant’s counsel said that some police officials appeared before the court. However, only the SHO submitted a written reply, saying that ASI Khadim of Tandojam police had picked the villagers on the basis of suspicion and they were not required in any case.

The court ordered the DIG of Hyderabad to ensure registration of an FIR against the SHO, ASI Khadim and the in-charge of the police post. It also ordered him to take departmental action against the police officials and submit a report before the court.
