KARACHI: A division bench of the Sindh High Court issued notices to three federal secretaries and the deputy attorney-general for March 12 in a petition filed by an NGO seeking legal action against six suspects allegedly involved in Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s humiliation and abuse in the United States.

The bench comprising Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Faisal Arab issued notices to the cabinet division secretary and secretaries of interior and foreign affairs ministries, who were made respondents in the petition.

The petitioner NGO stated that members of a Senate committee headed by Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed had visited the US and met Dr Aafia who told them that six masked men had intercepted her when she was being shifted to a hospital from the jail in the US and abused her.

The petitioner further said that although Senator Mushahid had submitted this report in the Senate in October last year, it was highly deplorable that the government had yet to take or seek any action against those responsible for assaulting a Pakistani citizen.

The petitioner prayed to the court to direct the government to seek the custody of the suspects involved in the incident from the US administration and lodge cases against them under the enforcement of Hudood Ordinance or seek legal action against them in the US.
