PML-N activists arrested in Sindh
HYDERABAD: Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) activists continued their protest against the disqualification of the Sharif brothers and imposition of governor rule in Punjab across Sindh while PPP activists also staged demonstrations in different cities and towns to protest torching of Benazir Bhutto’s memorial in Rawalpandi and portraits of President Asif Zardari at other places.
In Nawabshah, police resorted to baton charge on the PML-N activists in which three workers were injured. Police arrested over one dozen protesters.
In Larkana, police arrested 15 party workers for forcing the shopkeepers to pull down shutters.
Pakistan People’s Party-SB activists held a demonstration in Shikarpur against the disqualification of Sharif brothers.
In Hyderabad, PML-N activists staged protest demonstrations outside Aurangzeb Masjid in Gari Khata after Friday prayers.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Hanif Siddiqui, Rafiq Lodhi and other leaders said that the disqualification of Sharif brothers was aimed at taking over the control of Punjab which had become an eyesore for the rulers.
PML-N activists of Jamshoro district also staged a demonstration outside the Hyderabad press club.
Nawabshah Police baton charged and arrested a number of PML-N activists. Three activists — Abdul Hameed Khoso, Mustafa Jatt and Mohammad Hussain Arain — received injuries when police used batons against the activists at press club chowk. Police also arrested more than dozed party workers.
Earlier, PML-N activists took out a rally and staged a demonstration outside local press club. The rally started from Masjid Kabeer near Railway station and after passing Chakra Bazaar and Kutchehry road terminated at press club.
Protesters were carrying banners, placards, portraits of Sharif brothers and were raising slogans against the PCO judges. They also shouted slogans of ‘Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Zindabad’.
In Larkana, in the wake of a strike call by PML (N) strict security measures were taken to stop any untoward incident. However, in the presence of police and Rangers personnel certain groups of PML (N) workers protesting over the Supreme Court’s decision disqualifying Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Shairf, came out on roads and began pelting stones.
They forced the shopkeepers to pull their shutters but in a hide and seek police arrested 15 activists of PML (N). They were whisked away to different police stations, said local PML-N leader Ahmed Bakhsh Korai.
Police on Thursday night raided the houses of PML-N workers, Ahmed Bakhsh said.
In Shikarpur, PML-N activists took out a rally after Friday prayers. The protesters threatened to continue their protest till the restoration of Punjab government and condemned the incidents of torching the portraits of late Benazir Bhutto by miscreants.
They denied involvement of PML-N activists in such acts which they termed a conspiracy hatched by anti-democratic forces to create an atmosphere of confrontation between two major political parties of the country.
PPP-SB activists also took out a rally followed by demonstration at Lakhi-Gate tower chowk. They condemned disqualification of Sharif brothers and dissolution of Shahbaz Sharif-led Punjab government.
In Badin, PML-N workers, after offering Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid Golarchi, took out a procession led by former Sindh minister, Mohammad Ismail Rahu.
They staged a sit-in on Badin-Karachi road and blocked it for an hour.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Ismail Rahu said, people’s mandate received slapping by the rulers and disqualifying the Sharif brothers was a conspiracy against a major party of the country.
Meanwhile, PPP activists held protest demonstrations against torching of portraits of Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari in Badin, Sanghar, Shikarpur, Mirpurkhas, Dadu and Sukkur.
