Imposition of governor’s rule challenged
LAHORE: The imposition of governor’s rule in Punjab was challenged through a constitutional petition filed by a lawyer in the Lahore High Court on Friday.
Tariq Aziz, the petitioner, has named the federal government, the Punjab government, the Punjab assembly and former chief minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif as respondents in the petition filed under Article 199 of the Constitution.
He has raised four objections to the imposition of governor’s rule.
He says that detailed reasons for the imposition of governor’s rule were required to be given in accordance with the Constitution, but the notification contained none. The notification was mala fide and had been issued without lawful authority, he alleges.
The petitioner has prayed for declaring the notification unconstitutional and unlawful because it has been issued in violation of the Constitution.
