Capital to have Environmental Tribunal soon: Afridi



ISLAMABAD, Feb 16 Minister for Environment, Hamidulah Jan Afridi Monday said, an Environmental Tribunal would be set up in Islamabad in near future to check environmental pollution.
“Tribunals at provinces are working and we shall soon have one at the federal capital to dispose of pollution related complaints,” he told APP.
The minister expressed satisfaction on progress in regard to National Year of Environment. “Our basic aim is to raise awareness among masses on consequences of environmental degradation and we are doing it.”
“We are on the right path and at the end of the day everybody would see a change,” he added.
He said all stakeholders as well as school children and civil society are on board and activities are having positive impact.
“We are also going to re‑design major environment related policies for effective implementation of measures,” Afridi said.
He said environmental degradation was causing colossal loss to national economy and the government would explore all avenues to control pollution and degradation to ensure better health for people.
When asked about the activities of first one and a half month of National Year of Environment, the minister said, “we are proceedings according to our calendar and every activity is generating desired result.”
“Today people talk of environment, pollution reduction, clean drinking water and other issues,” he said. “And once they are aware, things would start changing automatically.”
The minister invited all stakeholders specially media to fully participate in the government’s endeavors to raise awareness and address the environmental issues.
